If you’re going to host a viewing of the big game at your house, there’s a lot you can do to make sure that you don’t spend too much on food and drinks!

The following tips work best if you’re hosting a small to medium-sized group of people (less than 25). Any bigger than that and you might have to ask people to bring their own drinks.
1. Offer an Entrée
Before offering guests with the actual meal, offer a small entrée. The entrée can be something very low-budget, like chips or snacks like small pretzels. You can buy them in bulk for a great value price and they keep the guests entertained. Not to mention, offering an entrée helps the guests feel a little full. They are less likely to take a larger portion of the main dish this way.
2. Stick to Small but Filling Foods
For the main dish, you’ll want to stick to something inexpensive but filling. Carbs and protein are the way to go, so offer things like:
- French fries
- Chicken wings
- Hot dogs
- Tater tots
- Corn dogs
- Sliders
- Popcorn
Most of the above foods can be bought frozen and in bulk. The ones that need to be prepared only need 2 or 3 ingredients.
3. Buy Off-Brand Sodas
If you get inexpensive, off-brand sodas, very few people will notice. Serve the sodas in a pitcher and your guests will be none the wiser!
4. Offer Cocktails Instead of Beer
Beer is one of the key elements of game nights, but if you’re on a tight budget, you may want to leave it behind. Beer tends to be low on alcohol content, so the guests will chug through it with ease as they look to feel buzzed.
A cocktail is a little different. For example, a screwdriver cocktail (vodka and orange juice) can be higher on alcohol content, so your guests will drink it slowly. Because it’s mixed with another drink, you save yourself from having to buy multiple six-packs of beer.
